News...but not what you know

It is difficult to remember the time before wearing masks because they have become such a normal part of daily life during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although masks may no longer be a legal requirement after July 19, many Britons may choose to continue to use them.

Cambridge researchers revealed today that the use of filter facial components (FFP3) for hospital staff in Covid-19 wards can reduce infections by as much as 100%.

The Addenbrooke Hospital in Cambridge upgraded the mask used by the staff in the Covid-19 ward from a fluid-resistant surgical mask (FRSM) to FFP3, with "dramatic" results.

But what is FFP3 mask and where can I buy it?

The FFP3 mask functions like any other mask covering, but adds protection against the spread of coronavirus.

Face masks are used to prevent viruses, bacteria, and solid or liquid toxic aerosols.

These masks are commonly used as personal protective equipment (PPE) by workers in the healthcare industry.

The minimum filtration efficiency of FFP1 filter is 80%, the filtration efficiency of FFP2 is 94%, and the filtration efficiency of FFP3 is as high as 100%.

The FFP3 mask fits your face better, fits better, and usually has a valve to help you breathe because the filter material is much thicker.

According to ChemistClick, FFP3 masks should not be reused after they are worn, because “the naked eye cannot see infectious particles and it is impossible to tell whether your respirator is contaminated.”

You should consider buying reusable masks, but if you decide to reuse FFP3 masks, you should consider whether it has been contaminated or whether you are in close contact with anyone who may be infected.

FFP3 masks are usually not found in high street stores because they are for medical staff, but you can order several places online.

There are several places to buy them, such as LloydsPharmacy, where you can buy a pack of 5 for £27.06.

ChemistClick also sells them for £3.99 each, while UKMeds can also buy them for £1.99.
