Pittsburgh (KDKA)-The Seneca Valley School District stated in a letter to parents that after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the rules for wearing masks depend on the judgment of individual school districts, the school district will retain the mask requirements.

Seneca Valley said its requirements comply with the health and safety plan approved by the region earlier this year.

The plan and its mask policy are based on the level of COVID-19 transmission in Butler County.

When the level of transmission in the county is high or large, masks must be worn in the school building during school hours.

Whenever these levels drop to medium or low, it is "recommended but not required" to wear a mask.

Currently, Butler County is experiencing high levels of COVID-19 transmission, so everyone will continue to need masks.

Due to a separate federal regulation, face masks are also required on buses.

The school board meeting is scheduled to be held later this week to discuss the policy.
